Nutella-Stuffed French Toast

4 slices of great quality white bread, thickly sliced
2 eggs
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/8 cup powdered sugar
4 T Nutella

maple syrup

Variation: Sliced bananas

Preparing the French toast:
Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium low heat. Whisk together eggs, cream, and powdered sugar.

Spread 1 tablespoon of Nutella on two of the slices of the bread, leaving half an inch border around the edge clean. If using bananas, spread sliced bananas on top of the Nutella. Spread another tablespoon of Nutella on each of the other two slices of bread and place on top of the bread with the Nutella and banana slices. Press lightly together. Place both sandwiches into the egg custard mixture, turn over until the bread has soaked up the custard. Put sandwiches onto the pan and fry on each side until brown, about 3 to 4 minutes. When cooked through, serve immediately with hot maple syrup.
